Here it is, another weeknight and you open the fridge and you stare blankly at it hoping something will jump out at you. Well, you need to look at the items in your fridge not as they are, but what they can be. Once you have a grasp of cooking basics, those everyday items begin to take on a whole different look. For example, the basics of a dressing or marinade are oil and an acid (such as vinegar). But there are other acids that get overlooked like orange juice, grapefruit juice, lemon juice, apple juice, and anyone with kids usually has at least one of those in the fridge. Now, there are other hidden gems like mayo and yogurt these are 2 great bases for tons of things like spreads, dressings, dips. Now anyone still have leftovers from Christmas dinner in there? Any turkey left, how about ham, any cream cheese? Here are a few killer leftover ideas for you:
Cranberry Sauce + Cream Cheese= Cranberry Cream Cheese Spread
Cranberry Sauce + Honey = a great glaze for steak, chicken
Yogurt + Honey = Great dip for fruit
Cream Cheese + horseradish= cream cheese horseradish spread
Diced ham + frozen peas + alfredo sauce = Pasta Carbonara
Stuffing + chopped clams + little clam juice = Clam cakes
Stuffing + Ground Beef = Meatloaf
See what I mean...start looking at your fridge a little different every day, and let your creativity be your muse.
