What's that gooey stuff on my deli meat??

Ok, value shoppers, time to take a look at this unpleasant topic.  Next time you go to your deli counter to look at the deli meat on sale ask the clerk to hand you one that hasn't been opened so you can see the ingredients.  Look the the ingredient " Carrageenan"  this is the jelly looking goo that you find in some deli meats, especially the ones that are low priced.  Carrageenan is a by-product derived from processing red seaweed, which makes it a natural additive.  What it does is upon getting moist, or wet it can absorb and expand 10X normal weight, which helps as an additive in deli meats by expanding the natural juices and/or water in the product thus means your buying less "meat" and more goo.  And for those of us parents it is also a prime ingredient in...yes, you guessed it...diapers.  Makes you want a turkey sandwich doesn't it, now I'm now trying to freak you out just inform, however there have been some tests that have linked this additive to several intestinal problems, some cancers, chrones disease, and several others.  So maybe that extra .25 cents per pound isn't that bad after all.
